Dylan contacted Gateway Pet Guardians, an East St. Louis-based business, and left an urgent message.

The facility’s director, Alicia Vianello, replied to his inquiry.

An animal welfare officer removed Athena, along with a number of other animals, from a neglectful owner in December, she added.
