Sometimes a good dog’s affection truly is the best medicine. Flavio Santos, a well-known zoophile, has been hospitalized in Brazil for about four weeks to be treated for cancer.
It was a trying moment for him, no likely exacerbated by the fact that he missed his beloved one at home, his lifelong best friend, the dog.
When the nurses caring for Mr. Santos learned of this, they decided to give him a special visit, possibly unaware of the impact it would have. Finally, the two pals were reunited. But, as it turns out, the impact of that visit was far more profound than it appeared at the time.
Doctors saw an important progress. The patient’s whole perspective appeared to shift.
« I was astonished, » the doctor said. Tancredi, Rodrigo. « He was alert, focused, and speaking. »
Tancredi went on to say that these animal visits appear to have psychological as well as physical effects, resulting in greater hunger as well as lower heart rate and blood pressure.
It was the first time a pet visited a patient in this hospital, but given the demonstrated benefits, I hope it is not the last. The story is really good. What do you think about the story?
