The newborn girls were craniopagus Siamese twins, which means they were born with their heads linked together. They were born 10 weeks early via cesarean surgery.
The mother did not experience the delight that other mothers do after giving birth to their children.

It was required to separate Aga and Erik’s fused skulls in order for them to survive and grow.
It is a risky procedure, although there have been several examples where twins have been successfully operated on. The parents have opted to have the children operated on.
The physicians warned that the operation would be harmful to one of the girls since it would need the separation of not just the skull bones but also the brains.
Neurosurgeons were well aware that even a millimeter might be hazardous to children. The girls were eleven months old when they were separated.
One of the babies, Aga, suffered the most, but was able to battle for her life, and the two adorable sisters survived.
Aga and Erik separated five years ago, and the girls are now six years old. Everyone was astounded by the famous twins’ stamina and resolve to survive.
