When Shannyn Pierce, 34, first noticed her gray hairs as a teenager, she felt self-conscious.
Sadly, this led to her being teased by classmates, some of whom called her « old. »
As a result, she began coloring her hair, but it cost her a staggering £130 to have her hair almost completely black every six weeks.
But when Shannyn’s 30th birthday approached, she made the decision to accept her gray hair.
She believes she has never gotten as many praises on her hair and has no regrets four years later.
It’s truly the nicest hair I’ve ever had, according to hockey coach Shannyn, who resides in Celina, Texas, in the US with her husband Trevor, a 35-year-old software architect, and their two sons Rowen and Jackson.
Shannyn’s mother frequently had her hair coloured, thus as a teenager she was surrounded by people who also covered their natural hair.
Shannyn was initially hesitant to let her gray hair show, but she has come to enjoy it and doesn’t want other women to feel self-conscious about it.
Shannyn saves over £1,000 a year by forgoing hair dye, and she and her family now adore her natural color.
Shannyn is able to ignore the criticism she has received despite it.
I have heard some remarks like « oh man, you’ve really let yourself go, » though.
« I just really thought about it and decided nah, I’m not doing this just for me, and I’m sticking to it – and I’m so pleased I did, » she said.
