A dog that had been seized from horrible owners was brought to the shelter by volunteers.
The animal’s existence appears to have been far from joyous. The dog huddled in a corner and refused to eat all day. When all other avenues for assistance had been exhausted, a veterinarian arrived with two bowls and requested that all of his acts be videotaped.
The dog’s name was Gracie, but she didn’t respond to it. Severe stress had a negative impact on her health.
Delicious food and care could help in such a scenario, but Gracie refused to eat and avoided people.
Volunteers at the shelter shared Gracie’s tale on Facebook, and Andy Mathis, a well-known veterinarian, responded.
He agreed to come to the facility and try to restore the dog’s faith in humans.
Mathis entered the dog’s area with two similar bowls in the morning. Both were full of food, and the veterinarian took one for himself and placed the other in front of the dog.
The man began to eat without looking at his friend.
After a few moments, Gracie took a small step out of the corner and looked at the man.
Then she looked at her bowl, and the vet took a risk: he took some food from her bowl and held it up to the dog’s nose in the palm of his hand.
Surprisingly, Gracie barely paused briefly before accepting the treat. This time, it took the dog nearly an hour to complete a bowl of food. She eagerly devoured each bite.
The dog gradually regained his trust in people.
Gracie will almost certainly try to find a new home. This time, the owners were kind and loving.
