Dave, a recent graduate from a school in America, was hailed as valedictorian (the student with the highest grades giving the goodbye speech). Long story short, he struggled more than other pupils to achieve his objective.
Dave admitted throughout his speech that he had no roof. Twelve years ago, he and his father lost their housing. After Dave’s mother died, Dave’s father experienced financial difficulties. They lost the house because they were unable to pay the necessary maintenance costs.
The youngster, his father, and his brother resided in a refuge and other transitional housing. Dave recalls traveling eight kilometers with his father and older brother Shaun when he was seven years old in order to find a place to stay the night in a Louisville shelter without a roof.
He lost count of the number of sleepless nights I endured on a chilly plastic mattress. Dave said in his address, he cried and hoped that his life would change and that I would not have to face the challenges of the world he imagined at the time.
He just want to demonstrate that despite difficulties, everyone can achieve a goal. Hedon’t want to continue living this life. I’m making every effort to fix things, he continued.
With the exception of a few close friends, none of Dave’s teachers were aware of his difficulties since he managed to conceal them.
Never give up and never believe anyone who says you can’t do something. That’s what I’ve heard my entire life.
Dave stated that he intended to attend a university in Florida and pursue an engineering degree, just like his older brother.
